I bought a second camera (Reolink Argus 2). Now I wanted to set it up, but as soon as I plug in the battery, it lights up red and beeps continuously. Resetting it does nothing. What can I do, is the camera perhaps defective?

That does sound like a defect, mine have never done that. Since you have two of them, you could insert the battery from the other camera into the new one - then you will know whether the problem is with the battery or with the camera. Either way, I would recommend that you create a warranty claim in your account and send the complete scope of delivery to the address given there.
