I have a Synology NAS DS216play with 2 x 4 TB WD Red Plus HDD hard drives. Now one is defective and needs to be replaced. Can I use a WD Red "Pro" HDD instead of the WD Red "Plus" HDD? Are both hard drives compatible with the NAS DS216play? Many thanks for your help.

The list of compatible HDDs can be viewed here:
https://www.synology.com/de-de...

WD Red Plus 4TB and WD Red Pro 4TB are both listed as supported.
However, please note the product codes and firmware versions to be sure.

You are getting into some really nitty gritty details here. I wouldn't be surprised if it is compatible, especially if you are using the disks as a simple copy of each other, for redundancy. But to be sure, especially if you are using them in one of the more advanced and performance-oriented RAID configurations, I'd ask Synology's support: they'll know for sure and if that drive is not compatible they'll give you the list of drives that are compatible.
