I have read time and again about the great heat development of the camera. What are your experiences?

Correct - the camera will (measured with the FLIR) up to > 45° at room temperature. I doubt whether this is good for the electronics in the long run. Every now and then I have dropouts, but I can't say whether it's due to an overload of the power supply or the temperature development in the camera electronics. I myself am very sceptical about this model. Other products (complete weather station) are top.

It really does get warm (housing 35..40°C at approx. 20°C ambient temperature), also consumes >2A at 5V, i.e. >10 W (at least when camera and overhead are active).
