I have to charge the pen every day because it only has a 10-hour battery (apparently it makes no difference whether it is used or not). Can the pen be switched off somehow so that the battery does not discharge?

After charging, the HP Tilt Pen must be switched on by pressing the button at the end of the device for 3 seconds. I assume that it is in the off state after charging. This is my interpretation from the drawings in the instruction manual. I don't know any more precise information, unfortunately.
