Question about Samsung 970 Evo

I recently received the 970 EVO. Unfortunately, it is not recognised by my Rampage V Extreme. My colleague with an older mainboard recognises it fine. Could my connection on the mainboard be defective? If so, can I still connect the SSD with a PCI adapter?
