I would use my 7th Gen. Ipad to send MKV films to the big TV set. Well, via a Denon 7.1 amplifier. My Windows 10 computer also outputs the MKV films in Dolby 5.1, does the Ipad do the same? Does the display on the Ipad switch off automatically?

The format of the video type has no influence on the video copy to the TV!

If the iPad can play the video, it will be reproduced on the TV screen.

The quality will never exceed 1080p, which is the adapter's maximum resolution!

The iPad's support for AAC formats for audio should enable 5.1

It's important to understand that the iPad is not a source for the TV!
It's a copy of the image processing done by the iPad's components!
