The question you have to ask yourself is what you want and what you need if you want to play 4K or have ray tracing, otherwise not. I play with a GTX980 everything at almost the highest level with 1080p.

You don't really get much more performance for that cost difference. Wait until the new edition of the 2000 series is released, then the other prices should come down significantly.
