In principle, USB headphones would be great, but not every type C headphone plug works with every type C mobile phone.

Unfortunately, that is true. Samsung and Huawei (maybe others...) seem to take different approaches.
Be careful with the adapters too: Huawei CM20 does not work with Samsung!
