is a z170 board with m. 2 connector compatible with an m.2 ssd 2280 to boot windows on it? i have an x99 board myself. it didn't work on it, despite bios update.

Can you name the model of your board? There are also various z170 boards that can only read the SATA protocol, in which case this NVMe SSD will not work.
