Is it a steel or an aluminium enclosure? And would there be room for a 5.25" drive behind the power supply unit at the bottom of the enclosure with a little 'tinkering'?

You might be able to fit a 5.25" drive into the enclosure with a lot of tinkering. Bear in mind that the drive drawer must also be able to be opened from the outside. It would be better to connect an external drive if you need it.
