Is the connection with the USB plug mandatory, or can the mouse also be connected directly to the laptop via Bluetooth, i.e. without a USB plug?

In principle, the USB adapter is only used if your computer does not have Bluetooth integrated. The USB adapter is not necessary for use via Bluetooth. This is also not a Bluetooth adapter, but uses wireless 2.4GHz technology.
