I have been using a normal 5V USB connection for 3 years, but I still have the old versions of the camera (5 in total), but I think the principle is exactly the same. I have no problems with the battery/solar panels. I've also adjusted the sensitivity a bit, otherwise it runs 24 hours a day in all weathers and then the battery is empty within a week.
