Unfortunately I lost the Nano receiver - as it is not a unifying mouse, I can't pair it with another dongle - is it possible to buy the receiver separately or can I throw the mouse away now?

No, you don't have to throw away the mouse. You can buy the dongles separately, I saw them at the big A with the search "Logitech Usb Dongle".
