1000 Nudes showcases the history of nude photography in all its diversity, from the first daguerreotypes to ethnographic images and experimental nude photography. This book covers a century, approximately from 1839 to 1939, from the beginnings of this form of expression to the end of classical modernism. It is a tribute to the full range of artistic approaches, from handmade artistic nudes wrapped in theories around the turn of the century to obscene postcards with no artistic claim, aimed directly at the client's wallet. All the images presented come from the now-defunct Uwe Scheid collection, one of the largest and most significant collections of erotic photography in the world.
