The bicycle seems to be the mode of transport for the new millennium. This impression has been prevalent in many places for some time now: young girls on candy-colored fixies, family fathers with cargo bikes, tourist groups exploring the city by bike, bike couriers on their lightning-fast Bullitts, retirees on e-bikes. In fact, the cycling industry is experiencing record sales one after another. In Germany, more bicycles are now sold each year than cars. The FAZ even reported in 2012 that in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg, 40 percent of all road users were cyclists. Additionally, the car as a status symbol may soon be outdated. After all, the bicycle is significantly more resource-efficient and healthier than its motorized counterpart. At the same time, cycling is an absolute adrenaline sport: speed powered by muscle strength.
