Product details

Six years after Faserland - the long-awaited second novel by Christian Kracht. Tehran 1979: The city is in a difficult-to-read frenzy, on the eve of the Islamic Revolution - the uprising of supporters of Ayatollah Khomeini against the Shah and his Western regime. The narrator, a young German interior designer, and his highly educated, cynical, health-damaged friend Christopher travel through Iran to Tehran, accompanied by the music of Devo and Blondie. Tanks stand at the intersections, but the two protagonists do not notice them. They prefer to discuss men's sandals and sofa cushion covers. And that is why both end up in hell. In his novel 1979, the author presents a postmodern grotesque in a dry tone that leaves strangely disturbing images. Above all, it is a magnificent piece of German literature.
