Biographies are textbooks for me. Personalities leave behind the harvest of their lives. Biographies testify to people who have lived actively in and with their time. I wrote my autobiographical sketch to reflect on my life path, to evaluate it, and to understand it. I am not a monolith; I am a citizen who has tried for 95 years to embrace the wonder of life with respect, thanks to my role models. Gottfried Honegger, painter, sculptor, recipient of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and member of the French Legion of Honor, looks back, recalling places, people, and works from his long life. As in human memory, these appear as sentences and images. Alongside photographs and documents, he sketches the essentials in lyrical prose, arranged chronologically, without claiming completeness.
