The Semmering Railway, opened in 1854, was an architectural masterpiece that represented a technical achievement at the time of its construction and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998. The builder was engineer Carl Ritter von Ghega. The electrification of the railway was initiated after World War II and completed in 1959. Johann Reisinger, an employee of the Southern Railway Museum, has selected over 200 exciting photographs from the collections of the local museum at the Mürzzuschlag Winter Sports Museum, the Southern Railway Museum, and numerous private collections. The images showcase the impressive railway technology and the elaborate construction work, as well as the work and daily life along the Semmering Railway. This historical picture book was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the electrification of the Semmering Railway, appealing to those interested in technology.
