A book, a radio show, a TV series, the latest video game, or the new blockbuster movie - all of these are designed to evoke interactions and relationships between media figures and audiences. For the past 60 years, the study of these so-called parasocial processes has been at the center of numerous research efforts. This book includes profiles of around 250 empirical studies, along with an introductory chapter that outlines the initial developments up to the current state of research and new trends in the study of parasocial phenomena.
