Nasreddin Hodja is the central (anti-)hero of humorous anecdotes throughout the Islamic world. While previous anthologies often stylize him as the "Oriental Till Eulenspiegel," thereby downplaying his significance, this is the first time a comprehensive portrait of this wise and profound fool is presented chronologically and geographically, which also does not shy away from the sexual and scatological aspects of popular tradition.
