Although historiography has dealt with the Holocaust for decades, there has been no comprehensive account of the resistance put up by the Jews themselves until now. This research gap is filled by the new book by Arno Lustiger. Through numerous conversations with survivors, dozens of short biographies, and autobiographical accounts from Jewish ghetto fighters, partisans, saboteurs, rescuers, soldiers, paratroopers, and others, the complete picture of Jewish resistance against the Nazis across Europe is presented for the first time. The author rescues an important piece of history from oblivion and debunks the persistent legend that Jews were led "like sheep to the slaughter." Numerous documents are published for the first time in German, making them accessible to local research. This is a standard work and a book that will stay with the reader long after they have finished it.
