Product details

Two of the most beautiful love novels by Martin Walser in a noble clothbound edition. "Until he saw her, she had already seen him. When his gaze reached her, her gaze was already directed at him. This took place at the Kreuzbrunnen, at five in the afternoon, on July 11, 1823, in Marienbad." The 73-year-old Privy Councillor Goethe - a widower for some time and so famous that his servant Stadelmann secretly sells his hair - loves the young Ulrike von Levetzow. There are 54 years between them, but Goethe tells himself: "My love does not know that I am over seventy. I do not know it either." "A Loving Man," Martin Walser's novel about Goethe's last love, was celebrated in the press as a "fiery text," a "beacon," and a "book of the heart." In 2016, he found its counterpart in "A Dying Man": the novel of a betrayal, a novel of the brightest dissonance. The one in question is Theo Scha.
