"People tell stories to live. And for death, they need music." For Marten, the cemetery is the right place: cemeteries are quiet, well-signposted, and provide ample shade. Even as a child, he feared not fitting into this world - and when the opportunity for a life free from uncertainties arises, he seizes it: he becomes a funeral trumpeter at the North Cemetery in Munich and plays the last song for the deceased. When Marten finds the bank card of his recently buried classmate Wilhelm, a grotesque odyssey begins. Without his own doing, he is drawn into a whirlpool of strange events and comes to know all that he has so painstakingly kept at bay throughout his life: other people, money, adventure, and love.
