The book "Abstract State Machines, Alloy, B, TLA, VDM, and Z" documents the fully peer-reviewed contributions of the 4th International Conference on these formal methods, which took place in June 2014 in Toulouse, France. It includes 13 full papers, 3 invited talks, and 19 short contributions, carefully selected from 81 submissions. The ABZ conference series promotes the exchange between six related, state-based, and machine-based formal methods: Abstract State Machines (ASM), Alloy, B, TLA, VDM, and Z. These methods share a common conceptual foundation and are applied in both academia and industry, particularly in the design and analysis of hardware and software systems. The aim of the conference series is to contribute to the integration of these formal methods, clarify their similarities and differences, and understand how different approaches can be combined to tackle tasks in modeling, experimental validation, and mathematical verification of reliable, high-quality systems.
