How were memorial practices, asset management, and historiography interconnected in the Middle Ages? The rich tradition from the area of present-day Switzerland reveals how various forms of liturgical remembrance initially developed in monastic settings, were then adapted by cathedral and collegiate foundations, and ultimately adopted by urban and rural parish churches. It becomes evident that these efforts served not only the salvation of the souls of the deceased but also the consolidation of power and the expansion of administration. Through battle anniversaries and other commemorative celebrations, historical narratives were disseminated that have significantly shaped the historical self-understanding in the area of study. This is illustrated through collections of records and intertextual relationships between necrological, land registry, and historiographical documents.
