Ace Records was the first US independent label to choose New Orleans as its main location and predominantly released Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll records starting in the mid-1950s. The founder of the label was Johnny Vincent (born John Vincent Imbragulio; October 3, 1925, in Laurel, Mississippi, February 4, 2000, in Jackson, Mississippi). After a few jobs as a record seller, he started the short-lived label Champion Records in 1952, for which he temporarily managed to sign the legendary Arthur Big Boy Crudup, even though he was still under contract with RCA Records. Crudup recorded six songs for the label, one of which, "I Wonder / My Baby Boogies All the Time," was released under the name Arthur Blues Crump & His Guitar, in order to comply with RCA.
