Product details

Please note that the content of this book mainly consists of articles that are available online from Wikipedia or other free sources. Achilles Moortgat (June 15, 1881 in St. Gillis near Dendermonde; December 9, 1957 in Baasrode) was a Flemish sculptor and landscape painter. Achilles Moortgat studied sculpture at the St. Lucas School in Ghent in 1904. He then worked for a long time in the sculpture studio of his uncle Alois De Beule (born 1861 in Zele). In 1904, he received the Primus Medal. He later attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and won the Prix de Rome in 1909 with the sculpture Orpheus. Since 1911, he led the studio of Gerd Brüx (1875-1944). Brüx had met Moortgat in 1911 and encouraged him to come to his studio in Kleve. The pastor Augustin Wibbelt, who worked in Mehr and had been a regular visitor to Brüx's studio since 1906, had an influence on this.
