Achim Becker (November 21, 1931, in Hamburg) was an SED functionary and chairman of the State Committee for Broadcasting of the GDR. Becker, the son of a milk dealer and a cleaner, completed an apprenticeship as a merchant in Grevesmühlen from 1947 to 1949 after attending primary and secondary school. From 1950 to 1951, he attended the School of Broadcasting in Berlin-Grünau and then worked as an editor at Berliner Rundfunk and Deutschlandsender. In 1952, he joined the SED and attended the Central School of the SED in Schwerin from 1953 to 1954. He subsequently completed a distance learning program at the Karl Marx Party Academy of the SED, graduating in 1962 as a diploma social scientist.
