Acta Pilati
German, Lambert M. Surhone, Miriam T. Timpledon, Susan F. Marseken, 2010Product details
The Acta Pilati, often referred to as the Gospel of Nicodemus since the Middle Ages, is an apocryphal Christian text. Like the Gospel of Peter, it is classified among the Passion Gospels, which primarily deal with the death and resurrection of Jesus. The name Gospel of Nicodemus comes from a statement in the prologue, which names Ananias, an imperial bodyguard officer, as the author. He claims that the text was originally written in Hebrew by the Pharisee Nicodemus, who, according to the testimony of the New Testament Gospels, was present at the crucifixion of Jesus. Ananias is said to have translated this text freely into Greek.
