Adam Charles Clayton (March 13, 1960, in Chinnor/Oxfordshire) is the bassist of the Irish rock band U2. Clayton is the oldest child of Brian, a Royal Air Force pilot, and Jo Clayton. When he was five years old, the family moved to Yellow Walls Road in Malahide near Dublin, where his sister Sarah Jane (Sindy) and his brother Sebastian were born. Clayton attended the private boarding school St Columba's College. He later transferred to Mount Temple High School, where he met Bono, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr. He started as U2's bassist and band manager before Paul McGuinness.
