Adelheid von Lauffen was the only daughter and heiress of Count Heinrich II of Lauffen and Ida von Hövel, daughter of Count Bernhard II. She was the heiress of Hoevel/Huvili, Unna, Telgte, and Warendorf, as well as important count's rights. She married twice: first to Count Adolf of Berg-Hövel (around 1070) and then to Friedrich I of Sommerschenburg, Count Palatine of Saxony (1120). There are two dates mentioned for this second wedding: In the history of the Bergisches Land by Franz Gruss, the year 1093/1094 is given, while Hansjörg Laute in Die Herren von Berg dates the wedding to 1090.
