Adelheid von Saldern (born 1938 in Munich) is a German historian. She taught as a professor of modern history at the Historical Seminar of Leibniz University Hannover from 1978 to 2004. Adelheid von Saldern studied history and literary studies at the universities of Munich and Mainz (1957-1963). She earned her doctorate in 1964 under Franz Schnabel in Munich with a dissertation on the Reich Finance Minister Hermann Dietrich. Based on a DFG project, she habilitated in 1972 with the book: From Inhabitant to Citizen: On the Emancipation of the Urban Lower Class in Göttingen 1890-1920. In the years 1989, 1994, and 1998, she spent several months as a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, the University of Chicago, and the Center for European Studies at Harvard University.
