Product details

No other figure left such a significant mark on the young Federal Republic in its early history as Konrad Adenauer. During his tenure as the first Chancellor from 1949 to 1963, key political decisions were made: Adenauer pursued a strict alignment with the democratic West, rearmament, engagement in NATO, and was primarily associated with the successful concept of a social market economy. However, he first had to win over the population: Chancellor Adenauer was thus inseparable from the campaigner and election winner Adenauer. Dominik Paul examines the emergence of the campaigner Konrad Adenauer and his recipe for success. During his time as chairman of the CDU, strategies and methods for conducting election campaigns were developed that shaped the elections in the Federal Republic for decades to come. Under the theme of the Adenauer election campaigns, the author analyzes not only the role of the active campaigner or the campaign advertising figure Adenauer but also delves into the CDU's strategy and presents the considerations and individuals behind the visible campaign for voters. The book thus not only provides an important contextualization of campaigner Adenauer in his time but also offers insightful glimpses into the early history of the CDU.
