Adolf Adam (February 9, 1918 in Pürgg, Styria; August 7, 2004) was an Austrian computer scientist and statistician. After attending primary school in Pürgg and secondary school in Graz and Bad Goisern, Adam attended a two-year commercial school in Salzburg. From 1934 to 1938, he completed the higher department for electronics at the State Vocational School Graz-Gösting, graduating with a Matura. In 1939, he began studying technical physics and actuarial mathematics at the Technical University of Vienna. His education was interrupted by World War II, and from 1940 to 1945, he was conscripted for military service. He served as a non-commissioned officer in the acceptance service for low-current technology.
