In the 1920s, Adolf Rosenberger was one of the most famous race car drivers in Germany. As a co-founder and managing director, he secured the financing for the engineering office established by Ferdinand Porsche, which provided significant impetus for technical innovations and race car construction. When the office fell into difficulties during the Great Depression, he left the management in 1933 but continued to work for Porsche as a co-partner and foreign representative. The increasing persecution by the Nazis did not spare the Jewish Rosenberger: in 1935, he lost his partnership and spent some time in a concentration camp. After emigrating in 1938, he spent decades building a precarious new life in the USA. The compensation and restitution proceedings he initiated severed his ties with the now internationally renowned sports car manufacturer.
