In Adorno's critical theory of society and Bourdieu's sociological theory of practice, the tension between the effectiveness and persistence of existing social structures and the agency of social actors is addressed differently. Both theories agree that social inequality, power, and domination are internalized or incorporated by subjects and consequently reproduced autonomously. However, they fundamentally differ on the question of whether there is an escape from this vicious circle of objective power and domination structures and their subjective reproduction through social character and habitus.
