Product details
Fruit painting has a long tradition in art history, starting with the famous apple from the Tree of Knowledge, through the lush fruit still lifes of 17th-century Dutch painting, to the apple motifs by Paul Cézanne and the Impressionists. Pastor Korbinian Aigner (1885-1966) also had a passion for apples and pears, which accompanied him throughout most of his life. In addition to his commitment to fruit growing, he created postcard-sized "nature-drawn pictures." Approximately 600 apple and 275 pear images have been preserved, which are kept in the TUM Archive at the Technical University of Munich. The watercolors were originally intended as teaching materials and only gained their current level of recognition after Aigner's death. In the art world, they attracted global attention in 2012 at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, where they were exhibited as an installation.
