The street has remained an overlooked setting, despite playing an extraordinarily important role in modern art. This book addresses the artistic engagement with urban space and demonstrates how images have been shaped through the use of the motif of the street surface, the transfer of road construction techniques into art, or the use of street materials as surfaces with social and political significance. The author examines cross-media representations and objects, artistic works made from cobblestones and asphalt as well as print graphics from the context of revolutionary events.
