For a long time, the cinema space has been keeping filmmaker Clemens von Wedemeyer awake at night. What if the walls of a multiplex cinema disappeared, allowing one to freely change their line of sight and wander to the next screen? Or what if the outside became the inside, and the walls of the cinema vanished? In his installations, the screen serves not only as a projection surface but also as a membrane – the seam between the performance and the sites of production. Through the intervention of film, historical and political narratives become visible as conflict zones at filming locations – such as in prisons, at borders, or in museums. "Places Under Influence" brings together new essays, unpublished texts, installation views, and films by the artist from the last 15 years. The book is published on the occasion of his solo exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
