'Afrokultur' brings together the biographies of black scholars and activists W.E.B. Du Bois, Audre Lorde, and May Ayim to place black German history, its present, and future in a global context, thereby continuing an intellectual tradition. When their knowledge productions are situated within a socio-political context, they do not require translation but can be integrated into ongoing processes of conventionalization, authorization, and normalization to highlight the path towards a 'racial turn' in Germany within the current political debate on "race." From a postcolonial perspective, what could be understood as an intervention into the existing supposedly "objective" order of the German academic system is illustrated through colonial perception narratives, demonstrating the extent to which coloniality exists in Germany.
