The first "Cripple Newspaper" was published 30 years ago. From 1979 to 1985, exactly 14 issues were released. The editions of the "Cripple Newspaper" represent a unique source and a diverse treasure trove. They document the urgency of the disability movement and mark its history as well as its significance for the present. The first cripple group was founded in Bremen in 1977, followed by one in Hamburg a year later. The "Cripple Newspaper" became their discussion forum. There was a thorough break with normality and paternalism. The term "cripple" was provocatively taken from derogatory everyday language and stood for an autonomous position of the disability movement. 30 years of the cripple movement - where has it landed? The book traces the complexity and central aspects of the original disability movement. The social, political, and educational dimensions of this (past) movement go beyond entrenched viewpoints. It would be a misunderstanding to believe that simplified views would follow due to the challenging title - "Cripple Newspaper." The opposite is true. It is too early for an assessment of the disability movement, as the issues are still relevant and can be elaborated on in a nuanced and self-critical manner.
