Maria Mies and Vandana Shiva wrote this impressive book over 25 years ago. The issues presented have not disappeared since then; rather, they have worsened, and new, more threatening ones have emerged: new wars, refugees, economic crises, political helplessness, and fears about the future. The causes, however, remain the same: the pursuit of profit and limitless economic growth on a finite planet. Unlimited growth cannot be achieved without violence against nature, against women, and against foreign peoples. What is new is the significant increase in this violence.
