Human images are documents of intellectual work through which people and communities of faith and knowledge attempt to understand themselves in relation to the world. Human images emerge from processes of self-understanding. They are therefore diverse, culturally shaped, and reflect complex insights, perspectives, biases, and also misconceptions about what their creators think about humanity and its essence, its humanness. This is also true for psychotherapy and its various approaches, which have somewhat divergent assumptions about human nature, creating opportunities for complementary perspectives or corrections of biases. This volume provides an interdisciplinary and cross-school overview of the function of human images in psychotherapy and its most important reference disciplines. Ten main approaches of modern psychotherapy are discussed.
