The "Symposium" is one of Plato's most famous dialogues. In masterful literary form, it depicts a drinking party where the tragic poet Agathon and his guests are to give speeches in honor of the god Eros. These speeches highlight very different conceptual and phenomenological aspects of love. Of philosophical interest, the "Symposium" is particularly notable not only for Plato's theoretical approaches to the theme of love but also for its representation of the theory of ideas. Research on this Platonic dialogue has gained new momentum in recent years, which is reflected in this volume that brings together 12 original contributions from internationally renowned philosophers in the form of a collaborative commentary.
