Anna Katharina Rabsahl identifies the key stress factors for parents of autistic children in an empirical study using the Parent Stress Inventory PSI/EBI. She illustrates the connections to the behavioral and interactional characteristics of autistic children and explains specific intervention possibilities. Using the case study of a young family that actively participated in the therapy of their autistic son, the author demonstrates the improvement in the quality of relationships and the parents' sense of self-efficacy alongside the child's developmental progress. The results clearly indicate that involving parents in therapy planning and implementation is a crucial factor for the success of the therapy. Furthermore, it alleviates parental stress when families are offered support based on learning psychology and qualifications.
