The Board of Trustees of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade has chosen the German literary and cultural scholar Aleida Assmann and the German Egyptologist and cultural scholar Jan Assmann as this year's recipients of the Peace Prize. The award ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the Frankfurt Book Fair on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt am Main and will be broadcast live on television. The Peace Prize has been awarded since 1950 and is endowed with 25,000 euros. Justification from the Board of Trustees: "In 2018, the Börsenverein awards the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade to Aleida and Jan Assmann, honoring a research couple that has inspired and complemented each other in their work for decades. The literary and cultural scholar Aleida Assmann passionately addresses recurring themes with her scientifically grounded studies.".
