Alexander Downie Dawson (born February 21, 1940, in Aberdeen) was a Scottish football player. Dawson began his career as an apprentice at Manchester United. He helped the club win the league title in 1957. In 1961, he left United to join Preston North End, having scored 54 career goals. At Preston, he became known as "the Black Prince of Deepdale" and played in the FA Cup final team of 1964, where he scored a goal in the final as they lost 2-3 to West Ham. He later played for Bury, Brighton, and Brentford. Dawson was the last player to score a hat-trick in the FA Cup semi-final in 1958 when Manchester United defeated Fulham 5-3 in a replay at Highbury.
