The writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957), world-famous for "Alexis Sorbas," tells the Alexander myth in a unique way in this novel. From the perspective of young Stephanos, who grows up alongside the Macedonian general, the reader witnesses the journey of Alexander the Great (356 to 323 BC). He immerses himself in the atmosphere of the Macedonian royal court, in the daily life of the Greeks over 2000 years ago, and embarks with Alexander on his "civilizing" campaign to Asia. The literary method gives the novel an incredible freshness and "renews" the reader by inviting them to identify with the young and then adult hero.
