Product details

Alexandra Vogt's works, in which horses and young girls play the leading roles, are created in close and continuous collaboration with the protagonists. Since 1997, Alexandra Vogt has been working on a model-like reconstruction of a dream that is both archetypal and autobiographical. Her works are characterized by a tension that arises from the encounter of two photographic aesthetics: the heightened staging of a story and the sober photographic depiction. In her photo and video works, Alexandra Vogt presents the bodily experience with horses not only as liberating but also as extremely unsettling. The horses in her images convey excessive physicality. This excess manifests both in an abundance of strength and vitality, as well as in injuries. They evoke an uncomfortable bodily sensation of injury that seems to challenge the unblemished world of horse romance. Ultimately, however, the element of physicality does not destroy the fantasy world; rather, it gives it its depth of experience. The remarkable aspect is that the images appear traumatic, yet they do not identify a specific trauma.
