Many people are familiar with Waldorf schools, buy organic vegetables from Demeter, or use medicines from Weleda. They associate these with appealing concepts such as "education for freedom," agriculture "in harmony with nature," and "holistic medicine." However, the occult backgrounds of these "alternative" offerings are known to very few. The roots of Waldorf and similar initiatives lie in the anthroposophy founded by Rudolf Steiner. Irene Wagner takes a critical look at the activities of anthroposophists in education, organic farming, and alternative medicine, examining the extent to which Steiner's views are reflected in the work of today's companies. In particular, the theory and practice of Waldorf schools undergo a comprehensive analysis. It becomes evident that the positive aspects are not very original and that the questionable educational concepts do not outweigh them.
